I bought this at a cobblers store years ago for my work boots as a logger, and conservationist. Not only does it water proof, condition, and soften the leather. It also helps to shorten the break in period of the leather on the boots. I highly recommend this to everyone. And I know it says to apply one coat then let it soak in and apply another, but if you work around dirt and such I recommend three to four coats initially then reapply about once a month.

I was skeptical at first about this product, I tried it and fell in love with it’s ability to soften and waterproof leather. I didn’t stop with my boots, I use it on my leather jacket and gloves!

Huberd’s Shoe Grease is a MUST HAVE for your boots. Previously I’ve used the brands that the manufacturers suggested, but then I found Huberd’s at my local grocery store. I ride a motorcycle as my only form of transportation (for many miles/years now) to and from work daily, and for everything else like errands/leisure. In NorCal (Shasta County) we get weather from below freezing to well into the triple digits. Snow/hail/heavy rain/blazing heat in the open air and exposed road is what my boots go through. I will ONLY use the Huberd’s now for my leather Dr. Martens, Wolverines, Red Wings… hell, I’d even put that gunk on my canvas Converse All-Stars if I thought it’d help. It will make your leather boots last much longer and be more soft/comfortable at the same time. Trust me… it’s very good sh*t.

I did some research on the best water proofing to apply to boots I wear out in the woods logging, on my ATV, tramping around. I delved a bit into the debate over whether animal based products (mink oil for example) are good or bad for leather and ultimately decided to try Huberd’s. I thought the combination of pine tar and bees wax was clever. After three years, I can say the stuff works great. I apply it once or twice a year and it forms a waxy sort of finish on the boots that is similar to the finish they came with (Chippewas in their “Apache” leather). It stays on and the boots have remained supple, water proof and dry. I love the smell of this stuff too – sort of pungent and piney. It did darken my boots some, which is no problem to me but could be if you want to maintain the “factory” finish on your boots. To me, the functionality makes the form. I definitely recommend this stuff and have used it on a pair of Blundstones I wear to the office in the winter as well. This is good stuff that is natural. The small can should last years.
